Thank You Tropical Starburst

Second Weekly Observation Entry: Day 6 Observation- October 7, 2014 #CandyIsGod

Lyric had a volleyball game on Tuesday, October 7. It was at 3:45 at the Big Gym. They lost to Damonte Ranch in 2 sets. The scores weren't so great either. I watched my sister leave her teammates after they were done with their team discussion that usually occurs right after their game.
"I can tell she's angry by the way she walks. Her long, irrational strides. As she gets close enough, I catch her attention. Our eyes meet for a split second, yet it feels like we had a full blown conversation." This is what it felt like:

My eyes: What's going on? Are you okay?
Lyrics eyes:  Shut up. I don't want to talk about it bum.
My eyes: Oh, okay.

It was an intense "inner conversation".
I can feel the irritation in her glances and the sharpness in her tone. She refuses to allow me to give her emotional guidance as an older sister should. But I am determined to help better her mood. So I buy her candy in hopes that sugar will remedy her bitter attitude.
         *Waits for reaction*
          SUCCESS. "Thank you, Tropical Starburst"
I am just amazed by how quickly she calmed down after I got her those Tropical Starbursts. After that, we just sat together and watched the JV and Varsity games. We didn't talk about anything in particular. I wasn't sure if she was enjoying my company, but I enjoyed hers. It was one of those silent sisterly moments that I barely have with her. I smiled at her and she looked at me like I was the weirdest person on earth. She's not the touchy type. I can't remember the last time she WILLINGLY gave me a hug in public. But it's okay, because tonight, I feel like the best big sister ever!

Rodrick Lubdig

My fellow bloggers, Mr. Reid has assigned my AP English class to create a blog. I am using it to communicate my observations, with Mr. Reid, his girlfriends’ English class, and the rest of the world if I'm interesting enough. I'm blogging about my 14-year old sister. Her name is Lyric Nameleokalani Melody Reyes. I typically call her Rodrick Lubdig, or Lubdig for short. I chose her as my subject of observation due to the fact that I see her everyday. Though, I've never truly paid attention to her entire physique. Maybe now I may.

First Weekly Observation Entry: Day 3 Observation- October 1, 2014 #Insightful

Here is an entry from my Observation Notes: “Today was a rough day for Lyric. I can tell by the look on her face. A wrinkled forehead, frowning from cheek to cheek, and eyes filled with something unhappy. Volleyball practice would be a plausible reason for her sulkiness. But I don’t assume. Assumptions often lead to more assumptions and in the end I never ACTUALLY know, so I decide to ask. I ask her but she doesn't say much. She never says much. She's very tough. Not that it’s a bad thing. She’s just tough.”
One of the objectives of this assignment is to actually pay attention to something/someone that is around you every day, but never truly noticed. I’ve been around my sister for almost 15 years, and I’ve never realized just how clueless I am. Throughout my observations, I hope to further understand her dominance and her toughness. Perhaps I will discover new things about my sister that I would never have known if not for this assignment.
